700 sq ft, Family of 5: A Not So Fine Dining Room & Kid’s Play”room”

When you squeeze five people in a 700 square foot house, you have to make sacrifices somewhere. The biggest sacrifice we’ve had to make is in our eating space. We don’t have a proper kitchen table. What?? You might be saying – You have NO DiningTable?!?! Well, sort of. No. And sort of yes, too. 

What we do have is the best we can do with the limited space we have: an all-in-one kitchen counter/island/dining table/toy storage shelf!  Read more…

700 sq ft, Family of 5: No Master Bedroom for the Parents’ Room

Back when I wrote my original “700 sq ft, Family of FOUR” post, I did not post any pictures of mine and KP’s bedroom or the “master” bedroom.
A) Our house has no master bedroom officially.
B) There’s not really any “space-saving tricks” in our room, and
C) Our room often ends up being the dumping ground for crap when we’re tying to keep the rest of the house picked up.

But since I’m gonna have a kid in here soon (like, actually HAVE the kid), I figured it was time to finally straighten it up and get the room in order. And hey, if it takes showcasing our room to the world in order to inspire me to action? Well, then, hey – it worked.

700 sq ft, Family of 5: Three Small Kids in a Small Kids Room

Ok, ok, as of the time of this writing, Family Member #5 has not yet officially joined us. But it could be any day now, and we’ve already made the space for them, so I’m gonna show you how we’re planning to fit three kids in a small room.

KIDS’ BEDROOM SIZE:
Width:11′
Length: 9′
Total Sq. Footage: 99 sq. feet*

*I did not measure the closet

P.s. My kids insisted in being in their room (and in some of these pictures) as I was trying to take them. Because they’re kids. And it’s their room. So I let them, hey, if anything, they add a sense of realism to the pictures, right? 🙂 Read more…
