Not sure if you should purchase the 2017 Parenting Super Bundle? You’ve come to the right place! Here’s my Parenting Super Bundle review.

When I first saw that there was going to be a “Parenting” Super Bundle, I was kind of like ‘eh’. I’m not especially fond of being reminded of all the things I should improve on as a parent, ha ha. When it was announced what would be in the bundle, I also wasn’t particularly impressed by the bonuses (which are usually my favorite part). And then, there was a whole “Faith” section (which is my biggest hangup of the Homemaking bundle, as it isn’t necessarily a good fit for everyone).  So overall, I wasn’t sure what to do.

BUT. Then the thought of the bundle rolled itself around in my mind. And I google searched some of the resources and decided I wanted them. And there was a Homeschool section–something that I’m actually currently looking for resources on. And…I figured what the heck. I could do another bundle review to make me feel like it was worth it. So I bought it.

Aannnd???

This is so unlike me and my usual bundle reviews, where I’m usually only so-so on them. 
Because.
See…
I like this one. Like really like this one. 

So I’m going to {omg} recommend it (if it looks like it fits your needs)! 🙂 

BUT, also unlike my usual bundle reviews, this time I’m not going to attempt to review every.single.thing in it. That’s too exhausting. Instead I’m going to only highlight the resources that *I* was personally interested in and looked into. 

(Though I’ll still link to Amazon links where I could find them so you can do further research – this is not something the main bundle sales site lists out. You can only find the list of links here on The Screenwriter’s Wife. 🙂 )

Oh, and a tip: if you buy the bundle on either Wed. 8/9 or Thus. 8/10 of the sale, you get the .mobi and .ePub for eReaders (along with the standard .pdf files) for FREE. Otherwise it’s a $10 upgrade. Just in case that helps you make a decision.

Babes, Tots and Kids: 52 Weeks of Preschool for Children Ages Baby-5 Years by Raegan Disharoon & Valerie Plowman ($29.99) 
This was the very first thing I went to as soon as I bought the bundle. I just so happen to be in the midst of planning for the upcoming, albeit lazy, homeschoool year for my daughter, and thinking that I should probably also have some learning activities for my preschool son too in order to keep him busy. And ta da! This resource fell into my lap! And, it’s awesome. It’s not just a typical ebook with some suggested lesson ideas for each week. No. It’s an entire years worth of preschool lesson plans and worksheets! Each week – WEEK, all 52 of them – has like 15 pages of lesson plans and activity suggestions and ideas to teach and differentiate the same lesson topic to babies, toddlers, and preschoolers all at once, as well as book suggestions that go along with the weekly topic and then another 5 printable worksheets per week. Quick estimation here: 5 worksheets x 50 weeks = 250 worksheets PLUS 15 pages of lesson plans x 50 weeks = 750 pages of lesson plans. Which in total is, yeah, that’s right, ONE THOUSAND PAGES OF MATERIALS in this resource!! Are you blown away yet? ha ha ha. I know. I know. You’re like, ‘what happened to you Ronni?? This is so unlike you to talk like!‘. Maybe I’m just excited because this was just what I needed right now. Maybe you’ll hate this resource. Whatever. 🙂 This sells on Teachers Pay Teachers for $30, which is the price of this entire bundle, so um, yeah. If this is something you need in your life right now (like apparently I need in mine) – just buy this whole bundle thing. Lol. 

1000 Miles of Memories: How To Plan Your First Epic Road Trip & Save Money By Camping by Robyn Robledo ($13.00)
Did I mention that we’re about to take a road trip in a couple days? And then another in a couple weeks? And then an even bigger (and possibly more epic) one in a couple of months? While the thought of camping along the way sounds fun, with a newborn, a 3 yr old and an almost-6 yr old, that’s just not gonna happen this time around. lol. Either way – I’ve been in road trip planning mode lately, so I wanted to check this book out. 200 pages. I skimmed through this book for now, but I’m definitely putting this on my Kindle to read later (maybe while on one of our upcoming road trips 🙂 ). I love that she includes 5 road trips itineraries all planned out for you…and I especially love that she included some of the campgrounds that my family has camped at along the pacific coast and that I already know! I don’t always love living in CA, but man, we do have some awesome outdoors here. I really need to talk KP into doing the CA Coast camping road trip planned out in this book at some point…
If you like to camp and/or take road trips, and you live by the Pacific Coast or Western states of Colorado/Utah/Arizona – this ebook is totally for you.

Around the World Stories ($30) – this is not something I would’ve sought out beforehand, but now that I found it, I like it! Especially since we’re about to head out on a couple road trips and I was already looking for audio books or something for the kids to listen to. I was so intrigued by the idea that I even submitted it to the independent study charter school my daughter uses to become an approved vendor! I’d like to continue listening to these stories for awhile…I’ll update my instagram/twitter while on the road to let y’all know how they work out on the road trip! 🙂 

TEACH Your Children How to Behave by Brittany Ann ($9.99) – 76 pages. Is it bad if I say this is exactly what I need in my life right now ? 🙂 I like how the author starts off acknowledging that new parents are given lots of info about how to take care of a baby…but then as the baby gets older and is suddenly a tantruming toddler or bossy 5 year old and parents are just supposed to figure it all out. So true! I half-read through half of this book, but I’ll definitely be back to finish it. I like the tone, I like the parenting style (it feels very “teacher-ish” lol), I like that it feels realistic to achieve. The author does introduce every section with a Bible verse, however, there seems to be no other religious mentions otherwise, so it still feels like a very accessible method for parents of any, or no, faith.

  • Crafty Critters: Crafts to Go by Amanda Dion ($9.99) – 107 pages. I’m sure you could find most of these on pinterest or somewhere, but it’d probably take a while to locate all of them. I like that this is a one-stop-shop for animal and seasonal crafts idea. If you’re a preschool teacher or are regularly looking for crafts for young kids (probably good for ages 3-7ish), then this will be a great resource for you.
  • Farm Life Quiet Book by Kristina Manscill ($4.99) – ok, this is cute, I have to admit. In fact, I spent probably waaay too much time trying to figure out if this would be cost effective for me to print off and and turn into a quiet book for my 3yr old for our upcoming road trip. I REALLY wanted it to be on color though (since some of the pages only make sense in color), but printing on cardstock at Staples in color is too expensive (I only have a b/w printer). So moral of the story: this is cute and would make a cute quiet book. However, it’s only really going to be worth it to you if you have a nice color printer at home to use. Oh and maybe a laminater. I’m considering still printing this out in b/w….we’ll see…. 
  • Funny Mom Joke Pack: Make Your Kids Laugh Every Day of the Year by Jill Riley ($29.00) – ok guys, I’m not really funny. And I’m ok with this. Anyway. I checked this out because I figured my kids lives might be enriched if I injected some humor every once in a while. Basically, this is 27 pages of clean kid friendly jokes. Not something I probably would’ve considered purchasing – especially not for $29!! It’s not worth that -, but hey, it was “free” with the bundle, so why not?
  • Hero training! Kids Character Challenge by Liz Millay ($15.00) – 97 pages. I was kind of interested in this, as admittedly “character building” is not something I’ve done a very good job so far as teaching my kids and I want to do better. However, this resource is HEAVILY Christian-based. It probably should’ve been placed in the “Faith” section of the bundle, not the “Activities & Crafts” section. Either way, this will probably be a great resource to some, but just not the right fit for me. Actually, I see this being a great fit for a Sunday School or Bible Club curriculum. 
  • Mini Mom & Dad Dates by The Dating Divas ($4.97) – 24 pages, 5 mini date printables. These are “dates” to go on with your kids, not your spouse. Just to clarify. 🙂 I could actually totally see my almost-6yr old daughter having fun doing this with me; I might do some of the pages. I don’t know if I’d pay $5 for this (but that’s just cause I’m cheap, lol), but I might use it now that I have it. 
  • Random Acts of Kindness Cards for Kids by Lauren Tamm & Rachel Norman ($5.99) – 11 pages of printables to print off. Cute little cards, sure, and I love the idea of teaching kids to do random acts of kindness, but I don’t know if I’d pay $6 for them.
  • The Ultimate Life Cycle Printables by Kimberly Huff ($9.99) – 88 pages. hmm…I might use some of this one day, if I’m looking to teach the life cycle of a particular animal and cant find it anywhere. But on first thought, eh, it feels a little too cutesy for me. Probably wouldn’t have paid for this on its own, but I think I might end up using part of it now that I have it.

  • Back to School Planner 2017-18 by Laura Rizer ($4.00) – 20 pages. Nothing that can’t probably be found on pinterest, likely for free. Not worth $4. 
  • Blockies Complete Routine Chart Set by Samantha Jockel  ($6.00) – 8 pages. Some kind of Minecraft-looking guy with lists of daily routines? Definitely not worth the $6 it claims it’s worth. 
  • Editable Chore Cards for Kids by Sara McClure ($15.00)
  • Fairies Complete Routine Chart Set by Samantha Jockel  ($6.00) – note the review for Blockies Routine Charts above. This is the same thing, only fairies. Not worth $6.

  • 120 Math & Literacy No-Prep Games for K-2 by Anna Geiger ($12.00) – These are pretty cool. I’m not totally sure how much I’ll end up using these games. I’ll probably try one or two of them and then it I’ll see how my daughter takes to them. There three parts to this file, 41, 28 and 96 pages respectfully. I think this is probably worth the $12 they are asking, but the file size of these .pdfs are huge and it’s hard to scroll through the documents quickly to find the pages I might be looking for. 
  • 31 Ways to Practice Spelling Words by Terri Thompson ($5.00)
  • Creative Freewriting Adventure: A Journey into Freewriting by Stacy Farrell ($18.95)  – sure, I’m a credentialed – albeit math – teacher and also a wannabe writer, but I had no idea what “freewriting” meant. So I opened this up, and Bonus! it’s a ‘Philosophy Adventure’ freewriting bundle that covers several historical philosophers including: Thales, Pythagoras, Xenophanes,etc. It gives a page about the philosopher and the time they lived, then poses a scenario to write about. 51 pages total. This is several grades above my almost-6 yr old, so I may have to file this one away to use in later years, but still, I kind of dig it. The material is somewhat religious, one of the sections has students discuss C.S. Lewis’ views on eternity and heaven/hell and another section is about Christmas/Jesus’ birthday. You could easily skip these last two sections (as well at the ad in the back of the book for the author’s ‘biblical worldview’ homeschool materials), and still get a lot out of this, but still, be forewarned that there are a few instances of religious content. 
  • How to Talk About Art with Kids by Cindy Ingram ($14.00)
  • Nurture Art: How to Develop a Joyful Art Practice With Your Children by Cathy James ($10.00)
  • Training Your Children in Home Economics by Angie Kauffman ($2.50)

  • A Mom’s Practical Guide to Baby-Led Weaning by Brittany Dixon ($14.99)
  • Cooking Around the World by Debbie Madson ($27.00) – 168 pages. Hey, this one’s kind of cool. I may use some of these recipes to supplement the Around the World Stories bonus, or even the Little Passports/History Unboxed that I do with my “lazy homeschooling” version of homeschooling. There’s also some basic worksheets and activity lesson plans to go along with the recipes, but in my opinion, the recipes are the best part and the part I’ll come back to this resource for. Is it worth the $27 they claim it’s worth? Eh, I’m not sure. You might be able to find something similar for cheaper/free through Amazon or enough pinterest searches, but regardless, I’ll come back to this book and use it. 
  • Crunch! Put a Stop to Picky Eating and Help Your Kids to Love Veggies by Dr Orlena Kerek ($15.00) – this was offered in the 2016 Healthy Living Bundle too. 
  • My First Kitchen Binder for Kids by Tauna Meyer ($14.99) –134 pages. I like that this has table manners and how to set the table, and basic cooking lessons and teaches how to plan to host a small event in this case, like a tea arty). I like all this stuff. This is a nice little resource. But eh, I highly doubt I’ll print it off and use it. While I WOULD like to teach my kids some better mealtime etiquette, I’d prefer an already bound book we can read together. So yeah, cute. Helpful. I like. But I probably won’t use.

  • 7 Key Tips to Save Yourself from a Bad Day (Or Life) by Ruthie Gray ($25.00)
  • A Realistic Action Plan For the Weary Mom: 15 Days of Hope From The Intentional Mom by Jennifer Roskamp (7.99)
  • Creating A Schedule That Works: Your Life, Your Schedule by Marlene Griffith ($10.00) – 38 pages. Half the book is printables that just feel like filler. HOWEVER, this is totally the kind of schedule help I need. Not just the “wake up before the kids, get enough sleep, drink water, work during naptime, blah blah blah” that gets regurgitated over and over. This I can follow! It’s a short read, but it explains how to think of your days in “blocks” i.e when you wake up to breakfast, morning, afternoon, evening. Schedule things to do in the blocks, rather than stress out about how each day in its entirety is supposed to go. As someone who never seems to have a good grasp on a) how much time something is going to take me and b) how much time I have…this little ebook might not be a best fit for everyone else, but it’s exactly what *I* need to read to start to get my life and schedule organized. I think $10 is a little steep for ~20 pages of text – I don’t know if I’d ever have bought this for that price – BUT, it’s got some valuable advice in it.
  • Don’t Panic! A Practical Guide to Twins, Triplets and More by Karen Bleakley ($9.99)
  • If Only They’d Told Me: All The Things You Wish You’d Been Told About Pregnancy, Parenting & Relationships  by Natalie Cutler-Welsh ($6.00) – 269 pages. I skimmed this one a little right now, but am definitely going to add to the Kindle to read when I can. It’s written by two New Zealand mums so some of the nomenclature is a bit different for me, but that’s fine. At this stage of my life, with a now-school aged daughter, a preschooler, and a newborn, I doubt anything in the book will be new to me or I’ll learn from…but I just like how it realistically sums up this entire crazy, exhausting, ever-changing journey of parenthood that I also had no clue what I was really getting myself into before I did, lol. Does anyone really know what they’re signing up for beforehand?
  • Parenting in Tough Times by Luschka van Onselen ($6.75)
  • Peaceful Pauses: Touchstones for Your Mama Soul by Betsy May ($7.99)
  • Raising Positive Kids in a Negative World: Audio Version by Zig Ziglar ($49.97)

  • Simple Ways to Parent without Anger by Adina Soclof ($7.97) – 9 pages. Unless I’m missing something, I don’t understand how this is being sold for money?? It feels like someone cut and pasted text that was in a powerpoint presentation and then copy-pasted it into a word document. (edited to add: yep, that’s exactly what it is, see link below) There’s some highlighting in some parts too – I’m not sure if that’s supposed to mean something? And hmm….it looks like you can get this “course” for free HERE. Whatever this is, it’s NOT WORTH ANY MONEY, let alone $8? So weird. 
  • The Stop Yelling Handbook by Amanda Rueter ($7.99) – 17 pages. This was not what I thought it was going to be. It’s several pages that you’re supposed to print out and hang up as reminders of how to calm down? There wasn’t a lot of guidance to this. It felt more like general tips for controlling anger rather than a guide to stop yelling at your kids. Which is what I was looking for. Man, both “don’t be mad at your kids” resources in this bundle were strike outs. 🙁
  • Thrive: Ziglar Family Community Membership by Ziglar Family ($75)

  • Autism/ADHD Food & Nutrition Workshop by Julie Matthews ($47.00)
  • Children with ADHD: 10 Non-Medication Options for Success at School and Home! by Misty Martin, Ed.S. ($11.99) – 43 pages. I know my son is probably just a typical 3 yr old boy, but goodness gracious, he is always lost in his own world, ha ha! If there are diet/natural options to be aware of and start building toward that might help him have better focus, then by all means, I’m interested. 🙂 However, it didn’t really list anything that was applicable to a preschooler or that I hadn’t already heard, i.e. routines, organization, exercise/activity, cut out sugar/processed foods, etc. 
  • How to Teach Your Kids to Crush Anxiety by Natasha Daniels ($127.00)
  • Raising the Blinds on Anxiety: Workbook for Kids by Deborah Kendall ($14.95) – 29 pages. I’m not saying that my kids have anxiety, but well, my daughter. um. my daughter. I love her. But she’s got her own personality and if I can add to my toolbox of methods to help her refocus in certain situations, all the better. Written from the viewpoint of (and by?) an 11yr old boy who deals with anxiety and the methods he uses to deal with his anxiety. It’s pretty basic though; I’m sure there’s probably (hard copy) books out there already cover this for children? Not really something I’ll use, nor something I’d probably pay for. $15 also seems rather overpriced to me.
  • Taking Time For Me: A 31 Day Journal to Help Increase Mindfulness and Decrease Anxiety by Karla Archer ($9.00)

FREE 1-month membership from Musik at Home ($30) – I kind of think this is a fun idea. If I only had one child, and had lots of time to spend with them, or if I was musically inclined and felt a strong pull to encourage my children in music at a young age, I might be interested in it. The program is all set up to easily introduce your child to  music through lessons at home. I like that you can even purchase the suggested “instruments” for play with the videos. I bet this will be a great resource for some of you. It’s just not something that I have the energy for right now to try to force my wiggly preschooler or eventually older baby to follow along with this. 

  10 free audio stories for kids from Around the World Stories ($30) – See my review above in My Favorites!

 

FREE 1-month subscription from Bookroo ($18) – this was also a bonus in the 2017 Homemaking bundle. I didn’t redeem it then. I don’t know if I’ll redeem it now. I like the idea. And I’d love to get my 2 free books. But I’m almost positive I wouldn’t keep up the subscription past the free trial. We have so many books, and we get more from the library. And I like picking out the books I want to buy. Again, it’s a fun idea. Regardless of it I plan to redeem this bonus or not, it’s a good addition to the bundle. 

FREE All Natural Bug Repellent & Lotion Bars project kit from Detox Project Box ($25) – I’m not sure what I think of this. At first glance, it seems cool. But on second glance, it seems messy and more hassle than its worth? Detox Project Box had a bonus in the 2017 Homemaking bundle too that I never took advantage of either. Maybe someday I will…
